Somewhere in the dim and distant, over a hundred years ago, a Meeting Room was opened for the people of Catshill; a place for the local nail-makers, farmers and assorted villagers to enjoy tea, coffee and be able to meet; they called it The READING ROOM. Many years later, and still on the same spot, it became a club for the local villagers to enjoy all sorts of drink, playing indoor games whilst meeting their friends and neighbours, and its name was changed to CATSHILL & DISTRICT WORKING MENS CLUB. In those far off days, the premises were situated in the corner of the existing car park, and access was gained by climbing up rickety wooden stairs. Now the Club stands back in its own car park, more centrally situated on the same land, and, although still registered as a Working Mens Club, it still remains out of any National Club Institutes, like the C.I.U, etc, and is now called CATSHILL SOCIAL CLUB. A change of name has not altered its obligations, nor indeed its aims. It was felt by the existing Committee that after a £125,000 face lift in the Games Room, complete with air conditioning that, perhaps, a new image was called for. For many years now,"THE CLUB" has been considered the Live Music centre of Bromsgrove. Where members meet socially for enjoyment seven days a week. Where members can play Snooker, Darts, Dominoes and Crib. They all compete in local leagues. We also have our own Pigeon Fanciers Club, and they compete both locally and in a National League. There is a Fishing Section within the club, and they, too, compete in both Local & National events. The Club is also children friendly, and has its own outside smokers area, with light and warmth. So, why not visit........and see for yourself. You really will be made welcome.
